SECP Portfolio Critique and Review

A portfolio of work has been the standard tool for creatives for generations.

Are you still using the same portfolio you've used for years?
Are you showing work samples from school?
What about your digital portfolio? Got one?

July's SECP event is for anyone who provides creative services and needs to show work samples to potential clients. Whether you're a graphic designer - print or web, a writer, a photographer, an illustrator, or whatever, you will need a strong portfolio with the very best work samples you can pull together. Not only that, but those samples should be targeted toward your clients.

Your clients turn to you for your expertise. Don't make the mistake of showing or sending them tacky, less-than-professional work samples. Come get a portfolio review and see what the experts in your field are using.

We'll kick off the event with Jackie Mathys of Mathys Creative Staffing. An old friend of SECP, Jackie has run creative staffing agencies for years on both the East Coast and the West Coast. She knows what clients are looking for and she's bringing her eagle eye to help SECP members beef up and fine tune their portfolios.

Then we'll have SECP member and web designer Emma McCreary give some tips on your digital portfolio. Among other things, Emma runs an online directory called Rose City Designers and she's going to share some of her knowledge on creating digital portfolios and displaying your work on the web.

Then we'll have samples from the pros in different fields. See what's working for them. How they're using their work to get them work. Then have your portfolio reviewed and pick up some tips on how to make it stronger. You've got the whole summer to polish your portfolio.

In a tough market, you can't afford not to be on the top of your game. Bring your portfolio Thursday night and learn how to use - or create - this all important tool.
